Wendy's Heisman Award

The  Wendy's High School Heisman Awards Program recognizes the accomplishments of both male and female senior scholar athletes.  To be eligible a student must possess a cumulative 3.0 GPA (grades 9-11) and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport.  Please come by the counseling office for application information.  Deadline for applying online is Sunday, October 2.

 

Danforth Scholars Program at Washington University in St. Louis

Recipients of this scholarship demonstrate service, leadership, and academic excellence.  Students must be nominated by a counselor or principal.  See college counselor for more information

 

2010-2011

The MS Chapter of the American Nuclear Society

gives two scholarships annually, worth $1,000 each to students who have an interest in working in a field applying nuclear science and technology.   Recipients are chosen based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, a 500 word essay, and letters of recommendation from counselors and/or teachers.  Deadline:  May 1, 2011.  For application and more information:  http://local.ans.org/ms/

 

Tillman Military Scholarship – MSU

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program

100 scholarships @ $25,000/year and 1,000 scholarships @ $2,000/yr. will be given to applicants who plan to major in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Business Adm., Finance, Marketing, or Design and are interested in a career in the automotive or related industries. Champions for Children

Offers scholarships to high school seniors across the State of Mississippi who have demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of young people through mentoring. In addition to mentoring at least 100 hours during their senior year of high school, applicants must submit a completed application, including an essay about their mentoring experience. The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program

recognizes high school seniors who demonstrate academic merit and show promise of continued excellence in postsecondary education. This scholarship is not awarded based on financial need. Students interested in applying for the scholarship must complete and submit an application. An official high school transcript must accompany the application or academic record, ACT or SAT scores and an essay entitled: Why I Intend to Go to College. The application and all supporting documents must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2011. For an application, go to

Rotary Mentor Scholarship

$16,000 ($4,000/year) based on student potential, financial need, and high school performance including test scores, grades, extracurricular activities, and employment.  Essay and recommendations required.  Deadline is March 4, 2011.  Information is available in the counseling office.

 

 

Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program

Rewards volunteers ages 6 – 18 who help make their communities a better place to live.  Volunteer efforts should have made a positive impact on others in the last 12 months.  Nominations accepted February 1-March 15, 2011.  Scholarships and prizes range from $50 Kohl’s Gift Cards to $1,000 and $10,000 scholarships.  Visit www.kohlskids.com for more information.

Mary Loraine Peets Buffett Scholarship

$5000 scholarship awarded by Southern Miss Alumni Association to female freshman entering the College of Arts and Letters at USM with financial need and a 3.0 GPA.  Essay required.  Deadline is March 15.

Elmo Lang Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to incoming freshman with 3.0 GPA and financial need.  Essay required.  Deadline is March 15.

Central MS Ole Miss Alumni Club Scholarship

The Central MS Ole Miss Alumni Club awards $1000 scholarships to deserving area students with “B” averages and ACT scores of 21-28 (inclusive).  Last year 25 scholarships were awarded.  Scholarships are awarded solely upon merit.  Applications are available in the counseling office and should be postmarked no later than March 12, 2011. Guidance counselor recommendation required.

 

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship

$2000 college scholarships awarded  to who set and reach ambitious goals, demonstrate drive, determination and ability to succeed in college and who have respect for self, family, and community.  More info available on website www.axa-achievement.com and in the counseling office.

The Mississippi Assn. of Independent Schools will award 10 $100 scholarships to seniors enrolled in MAIS memger schools.  Students must have ACT of 24+ and 3.5 GPA to apply.  Applications are availale in the counseling office.  Completed applications must be turned in to counselors no later than January 28, 2011.

 

Burger King Scholarship

Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians 2010 David G. Hall, M.D. Memorial Scholarship

Essay contest open to all seniors with interest in field of medicine.  Scholarships in the amounts of $1,000, $750, and $500 will be awarded.  Essay of 500 words or less on “The impact of a Family Physician in your life or in your community.”  Only 1 entry per school.  Deadline to turn in essay to school committee is Friday, January 14, 2011.

 

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award

Optimist International Essay Contest

Official Topic:  How my Education is theKey to a Successful Future.  Essays must be 700-800 words.  Very exact rules must be followed.  All information is available in the counseling office.  Local Prizes range from $100 - $250.  Winners at the local level will be submitted for district and international awards worth up to $6,000.  Deadline to apply is Dec. 31, 2010 with essays due by Jan. 15, 2011.

BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization offers an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in. Deadline -  June 24, 2010      Amount of Award  -        $500.00

Rotary Mentor Scholarship Program

recognizes young men and women who exhibit potential as productive citizens of Mississippi.  Up to $4,000 per year will be awarded to recipients based on potential, financial need, and high school performance (test scores, grades, courses taken, written expression, extra-curricular activities, employment and other responsibilities).  Candidate must have a “B” average, 18 ACT (or equivalent SAT) and show financial need for college. An essay and 3 letters of recommendation are required.  Recipients must attend an in-state college or university and will be required to perform 4 hours of community service weekly while in college.   Detailed information and application packets are available in the counseling office.  Deadline is Friday, March 6, 2009.

 

James Doyle Case Memorial Scholarship

offered by the MS Council of the Blind to a legally blind applicant, or to the child of a parent or legal guardian who is legally blind.  Two scholarships of $6,000 each will be awarded.  Postmark deadline is February 28th.  Application and information in counseling office and on-line at www.acb.org/mcb

 

Bumpers 2009 Discover Mississippi Scholarship Contest

Juniors or seniors with a valid driver’s license may participate.  Participants should pick up a “passport” at any Bumpers Drive-In restaurant.  To qualify, participant must get passport stamped at 12 different Bumpers locations in Mississippi by March 31 and turn in to a Bumpers location no later than 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31st.  A public drawing for scholarships will be held on or about Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m. at the Bumpers on Lake Harbour Drive in Ridgeland.  More details are available in the counseling office and at any Bumpers location.

 

Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (Sammy) 2009 Scholarship

recognized outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 with a $7,500 scholarship, a trip to Disney World, and an opportunity to be pictured in a special June 2009 edition of USA Today. To find out more, go to www.bodybymilk.com.  The deadline for applying is March 6.

 

David G. Hall, MD Memorial Scholarship

sponsored by the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians will award $3,500 in scholarships to MS seniors.  Applicants must write a 400 word essay describing the impact of a personal family physician in their lives and/or the role of the family physician in your community.  Only one essay per school can be submitted.  Entries must be turned in to the counseling office no later than March 24th .  The winning entry from each school must be submitted by March. 31st.  Winners will be announced by April 30th.

 

Kaplan/Newsweek “My Turn” Essay Competition

is open to all high school students.  Students need to submit a 500-1000 word personal essay on a topic of their choice, sharing an opinion, experience, or personal feeling.  Ten winners will be awarded scholarships of up to $5,000.  Entries must be received by Feb. 1, 2009.  For more information, visit www.kaptest.com/essay or go to counseling office.

 

Central Mississippi Ole Miss Alumni Club

is seeking nominations for scholarship recipients for the 2009-2010 academic year at Ole Miss.  To be eligible, a student must have a B average and have scored between 21 and 28 (inclusive) on the ACT.  Past scholarship recipients have demonstrated leadership qualities in school, religious, and/or community organizations.  Eighteen $1000 scholarships were awarded last year. Public announcement of the scholarship winners will be made at the annual Scholarship Luncheon in late April.  Recipients will be notified in advance and are expected to attend this event with their parents or guardian(s).  Instructions and application  are available in the counseling office.    A recommendation, student resume and any other information that you believe may be of assistance to the selection committee can be submitted with the application.    Original applications and recommendation plus two copies should be postmarked by March 13, 2009.

The Geisinger Scholarship Program at the University of Michigan

provides $20,000 in annual support to students from selected geographic areas entering the College of Engineering at the U. of Michigan/Ann Arbor.  Application deadlines must be received by January 16.   If you are interested in applying, see Mrs. Peet.

The John C.Stennis Scholarship in Political Science at MSU

$1000 scholarship opportunity for high school juniors and seniors. ESF Essay Competition

45 students in MS will win a $1,000 scholarship.  Essay of no more than 500 words should be submitted on the topic “If you could go back in time, where would you go and why?”  There is no minimum GPA or ACT score required for this scholarship – only the essay.  Postmark deadline is February 1, 2009.  Applications are available in the counseling office.

 

The Write Stuff ESF Scholarship

Will review test scores, GPA, activities, writing ability, and financial need in determining the winners of scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000.  The scholarship may be renewable for three years.  All required information must be submitted by March 1, 2009.

The SOF (Seeds of the Future) Foundation

Scholarships are available (up to $1000) for students who have financial need and meet academic requirements of a 2.7 GPA.  Information is available in the counseling office and at the website www.soffoundation.com.  Students may apply anytime during the school year, but must file the FAFSA (in Jan. or Feb.) in order to qualify.

Presidential Freedom Scholarship

Awarded to two juniors at Jackson Prep who have 100 hours of community service from May 2005 to May 2006.  Deadline for returning applications to counseling office is April 30th.

 

Central Mississippi Ole Miss Alumni Club Scholarship

$1,000 scholarships available to 8-12 students in central Mississippi with B Average and ACT score of 21-28.  Deadline is April 3rd.

 

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

A federally funded scholarship administered by the Mississippi Department of Education based on academic achievement and the promise of continued academic success.  Applicants should have strong academic records, high test scores, and  well-rounded extracurricular and community activities.  An essay is required.  Deadline is March 31.

 

L. L. Monroe – Mississippi Council of Cooperatives Scholarship

Available to children of employees/and or patrons of cooperative organizations, including electric power organizations, who plan to attend college in Mississippi.  Six $1,000 scholarships will be given.  Scholarship selection will be based on financial need, scholastic achievement, and extracurricular activities.  Deadline to apply is April 15th.  Applicants should apply online at www.mscouncil.coop.

 

Keppra Family Epilepsy Scholarship

Thirty $5000 scholarships will be awarded to epilepsy patients or family members of epilepsy patients.  Details are available at www.Keppra.com

 

James Doyle Case Memorial Scholarship

Two $4,000 scholarships will be awarded to  Mississippi students who are legally blind or have a parent who is legally blind. Autobiographical sketch, letters of recommendation, and proof of visual condition required.  Info available in counseling office.  Deadline is March 7.

 

Rotary Mentor Scholarship

Based on character, leadership, and financial need, this scholarship is given to a student attending an in-state college.  Application, essay, recommendation, and interview required.  Recipient must do four hours of community service weekly.  Deadline is March 31

 

Junior Auxiliary of Rankin County

Offers 2 $1500 and 17 $1000 scholarships to residents of Rankin County based on academic achievement, school and community activities, and financial need.  Deadline is March 1.  Applications available in counseling office.

 

United Auto Workers Essay Contest

Essay competition for graduating seniors.  Awards range from $400 to $1200.  Brochure is available in counseling office.

 

ESF Essay Contest

Sixty $1,000 scholarships awarded to Mississippi students for 500-word essay on “If You Were To Bury A Time Capsule To Be Opened in 50 Years, What Would You Include In It , And Why?”  Deadline is February 1.

 

Bumpers Drive In/Western Sizzlin Essay Contest

One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior at every school from which a minimum of 10 essays are received.  Essays and application forms should be turned in to counseling office by March 3.

 

Bumpers Discover Mississippi Scholarship

Open to juniors and seniors.  Prizes are awarded by random drawing ($10,000, $5,000, $2,500, $1,000).  Students get Bumpers “Passport” stamped at 12 Bumpers Drive Inn locations to the eligible for the drawing.  Contest ends March 31. American Fire Sprinkler Association Scholarship

American Cancer Society Scholarship

Scholarships are awarded to young cancer survivors to ease the financial and emotional hardships associated with fighting cancer and to assist young cancer survivors in fulfilling their career dreams.  If you have had a cancer diagnosis and have a 2.5 gpa, you may to eligible to apply.  The deadline is February 1, 2006.  Information is available in counseling office.

 

Education Communications Scholarship

Sixty-one scholarships are awarded based on GPA, test scores, activities, and financial need.  Deadline to apply is February 24th.  Applications available in counseling office.

 

Mississippi Municipal League Scholarship

Open to students planning to attend college in Mississippi.  Essay topic is “Why I Should Consider a Career in Municipal Government.”  Deadline is April 22.

Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Essay Contest

One scholarship of $1250 and several smaller scholarships will be awarded to deserving seniors.  The 500-word essay topic is “The Family Physician:  The Heart of Medicine.”  Postmark deadline is January 20, 2006

 

AAA Travel Challenge

Offers over $100,000 in scholarships to students in grades 9-12.  Information and registration available online at www.aaa.com/travelchallenge

U. S. Senate Youth Program

Students who are interested in history, government, and current issues are encouraged to apply.  Applicants must be an elected SGA or class officer or class representative.  Students will take a qualifying exam on Saturday, Oct. 29th.

 

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

Recognizes students in middle school and high school for exemplary community service.  Only one student per school can be nominated.  Fully completed applications should be turned in to counseling office no later than October 21 to be considered for nomination by the school.  One student from each state will receive $1000 scholarship and the opportunity to compete for a national $5000 scholarship.  Winners also receive medallions and expense paid trip to Washington D.C.

Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries Youth Scholarship Program

Open to students in grades 9-12 that are interested in learning about wildlife management.  Up to 15 students will receive a grant to implement a wildlife management plan.  Top performers will receive scholarships from $500 to $4,000.  You must have at least 1 acre of land or a 1 acre pond available to you for wildlife management activities.  Applications must be submitted by Nov. 1.  Visit website: www.msucares.com/wildfish/scholarship for more information.

 

Bellingrath Scholarship – Rhodes College

Seniors with outstanding academic and leadership records who are considering Rhodes College can be considered for scholarships with a 4-year value of over $140,000.  Must be nominated by a high school official or by a Rhodes alum or trustee.  Nominations must be mailed by November 1.  See counselor for information.

 

AXA Achievement Scholarship

Danforth Scholars Program at Washington University in St. Louis

Recipients are well-rounded individuals with highly developed interests in their community.  Applicants are evaluated on leadership, community commitment, academic achievement, and employment (if applicable).  Fifty students will receive $20,000 scholarships; 200 students will receive $4,000 scholarships.  Apply on-line at www.coca-colascholars.org.  Deadline is October 31st.

 

Air Force ROTC

4-year college scholarships that fund up to full tuition,  fees, and other  expenses at colleges with AFROTC programs.    Average scores of recipients are 28 ACT and 3.77 GPA.  Application deadline:  Dec. 1
