Becky
Herren - English
Becky has taught for thirty-six years in public, private, and parochial schools and is beginning her eleventh year at Jackson Prep. She received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Mississippi State University and was chosen as the MPSEA Teacher of the Year in 1982. She and her husband, Stan, have lived in Madison County for twenty-seven years and are members of the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church. The Herren's are parents of two grown children-Dr. Amanda Herren Camp and Seth Herren and two grandsons, Hayes and Mackie. Amanda is a practicing veterinarian at All Creatures in Madison, and Seth is a sales representative for Sygentia in Olive Branch, Mississippi.
In her spare time, Becky enjoys traveling, being with family and friends, gardening, movies, cooking-well, there aren't many things Becky does not enjoy doing.
Personal Statement
Good teachers are in love with the task of teaching. They are content to leave the harvesting to someone else. These teachers spend their time sowing seeds, but are rarely present for the harvest. God called me to teach, and I do this with joy. I sometimes cannot tell whether my work will produce fruit or fall on barren ground. I just know that everyday is a new learning experience for my students and me and I cannot imagine doing anything that I enjoy more than teaching.
Favorite Book: To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Favorite Quote: Much is required from those to whom much
is given, for their responsibility is greater.
