I was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi and am very proud
to call this community home. I graduated from Prep in 1984 and
attended Ole Miss for a year before transferring to Millsaps College
in 1985. I graduated from Millsaps in 1988 with a Bachelor of
Business degree. That year I married Doug Boone, a 1981 Prep graduate.
I worked briefly in the private sector before beginning my work
in education. I was employed in the Admissions Office at Millsaps
as Associate Director of Admissions for almost six years. In early
1995, I came to Jackson Prep as Associate Director of Development
for the first Development Office. Being involved in Prep’s
first Capital Campaign was an honor and gave me a different perspective
than I had as a student. After working directly with the quality
of teachers, administration, and staff, I was even more proud
of the years I spent at Prep, both as a student and an employee.
In addition, it was so exciting to see so many people make Jackson
Prep the recipient of their charitable giving. Being involved
in the community is very important to me. I was fortunate to be
in the Leadership Jackson Class of 1997. In addition, Doug and
I were very involved with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra,
the Jackson Zoo, and several other community service groups.
In 1997, after over 18 months of Doug doing extensive
traveling with IBM, we moved to Atlanta to be together as a family.
We are grateful for our time in Atlanta. We grew closer and also
learned that our family and home community is so important. In
2004, we made the decision to come back home! We were so excited
to come back home to grandparents, great-grandparents, cousins,
aunts and uncles, and old friends. It was especially exciting
to us that our boys would share our Jackson Prep experience. Will,
our oldest son, will graduate from Prep in the class of 2011 and
Sam, our youngest son, will finish in the class of 2014.
I continue to be very active in the community
through my involvement with the Junior League of Jackson, Habitat
for Humanity, and several other organizations. I am grateful for
the opportunity to make a difference in the future of Jackson
and the lives of all our children through my work with Jackson
Prep. Prep graduates come home and are the future leaders of our
city. It is so important that we give them the best facilities,
faculty, and opportunities to be successful in a very challenging
world.
