My name is Rebecca King. I live on a farm
in Leesburg, Mississippi, a small town 26 miles from Jackson Prep.
Most of my time is spent working or driving, but I also enjoy
seeing family and friends. My husband, C.B., and I have two sons
and a daughter. We also have two four-year-old grandchildren,
Clancy and Kirby.
In addition to my family and church, Jackson Prep is special
to me. I am beginning my 21st year in this school. Currently, I teach
five classes of American Literature. I enjoy teaching literature, especially
the works of writers such as John Steinbeck and William Faulkner who describe
the lifestyles of poor, displaced Americans during the Depression. Reading
these works gives me a real appreciation for the opportunities available
to most of us today.
I have seen many changes over the past 20 years since I
began teaching at Prep. Highway 25 had not been built, for example, and
extensive use of the internet was unheard of. Who would have dreamed that
most students would have their own telephones and E-mail addresses? Prep
has changed, too—it has gotten better! Because of its commitment to excellence,
I’ve always been proud to teach at this school. I have enjoyed knowing
many special students.
