A native of Tallahassee, Florida, I graduated from Mississippi
College with a BS in Education followed by graduate courses through
the University of Mississippi. I taught Special Education in the
Jackson Public Schools for three years, only to discover that
the classroom was not my arena.
However, I found my niche at Jackson Prep -
still involved in the education process without actually being
in the class room. This is my twelfth year at Prep as Administrative
Assistant to the Junior High Principal, Assistant to the Principal,
and two counselors. My job description encompasses a myriad
of tasks. I enjoy being a part of the students’ lives
as their “mom”, “nurse” and friend;
getting to know their families; and watching the students
develop from frightened, immature 7th graders into confident,
directed, young people. My job is never dull being the “communication
central” for 400+ people daily. I have been blessed
with a job that I truly enjoy in a stimulating environment
of supportive faculty, staff and parents.
I was a stay-at-home mom for 16 years; a volunteer
for numerous charities; served on the board of the Junior
League of Jackson and the Jackson Symphony League; taught
preschool Sunday School and Royal Ambassador at First Baptist
Church of Jackson and sang in the choir; attended Explorer
Bible study; served on the PAT Board at Prep for numerous
years in different capacities; Cub Scout leader; was the Phi
Delta Theta “Mom” at Ole Miss; played on two USTA
tennis leagues, which I continue to do today.
I have been married to Wallace McMillan, a native
Jacksonian, for 31 years. Our two sons, Hayes and Reid, graduated
from Prep and Ole Miss. Hayes and his wife, Blake live in
Jackson and own Roly Poly, a restaurant that serves gourmet
wrapped sandwiches. Reid works for Senator Trent Lott in Washington,
DC. I enjoy playing tennis, reading – mostly fiction,
travel, and Ole Miss sports.
