Susanna Orr, a member of the Social Studies
Department, is beginning her 21st year of teaching at Jackson
Prep where she serves as advisor for the YMCA Youth Legislature
program, CLOSE UP sponsor and Faculty Chair, mentoring new teachers.
At Jackson Prep in past years she has served as advisor for the
MS Model Security simulation at MSU, the senior class, Student
Council, and served as Social Studies Department Chairman for
eighteen years.
Since coming to Prep Mrs. Orr has taught government and
economics, AP United States Government and Politics, and in past years
taught sections of 8th grade U. S. History, Sociology, and Law Related
Education. Her teaching experience includes 10 years of teaching in the
Jackson Public Schools at first Murrah High School and then Lanier High
School. She is a graduate of Murrah High School, Millsaps College (BA
in History), and Mississippi College MEd in History).
She and her husband, Bill, have a son and three daughters,
seven grandchildren, and one more grandchild on the way. Her interests
center on her home and family. Mrs. Orr has dedicated many hours to academic
and extracurricular life at Jackson Prep. She has made a video history
of each class since the class of 1990, and has attended most of the school
activities associated with each class. She is a permanent member of the
Jackson Prep Band Boosters Club and was honored to have the Susanna Orr
Band Spirit Award named for her. She is an enthusiastic supporter of Jackson
Prep.
