SCHOOL DESCRIPTION
Jackson Preparatory School is an independent, co-educational, college
preparatory day school enrolling 784 students in grades seven through
twelve. The school is located on a 74 acre campus east of Jackson and
is the largest independent secondary school in the state of Mississippi.
The student body is diverse, representing various racial, ethnic, economic,
and religious groups.
SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
Jackson Preparatory School strives to be a school where learning and
character are nourished; where teachers and students are valued as individuals;
where differences are respected and talents are nurtured; where success
and honest effort are recognized and failures become instructive; where
judgments are tempered with compassion and achievements with humility;
where privilege accepts responsibility; where education is not an end
in itself, but a means to the individual’s fulfillment as a contributing
member of the world community.
GRADE POINT AVERAGE
Two GPAs are reported on the transcript. The All-Inclusive GPA
is based on final grades earned in all courses in grades 9-12 at Jackson
Prep. The Academic GPA is based on final grades earned
in academic core courses in grades 9-12. Academic core courses include
all English, mathematics, science, social studies, foreign language
and classical studies courses and the following business/technology
electives: accounting, computer applications, computer programming,
and computer projects. AP Art is considered an academic course upon
completion of the portfolio. Excluded in the academic GPA are all other
courses in fine arts, publications, and electives.
Individual subject averages shown on the transcripts are not weighted.
Four points for honors courses and 5 points for AP courses are added
in the cumulative GPA for the successful completion of each course designated
as Honors (H) and/or Advanced Placement (AP). In computing GPA, final
grades in courses taken at other schools while the student is enrolled
at Jackson Prep are not considered.
CLASS RANK
Because of the school’s selective admissions policy and the strong
competitive performance of its students, Jackson Prep does not rank
students except for designation of valedictorian and salutatorian at
