High Counseling
The Senior High Counseling program at Jackson Preparatory School was
founded on the tenet that each individual has value, dignity, and worth
and that guidance should be available to assist each student in realizing
his or her full potential.

Academic and personal counseling services
Distributing subject choice cards and course descriptions to students
in grades 9-11 in the spring. Counselors meet with students in their
English classes to discuss course options and answer questions. Individual
meetings are held when necessary.
Scheduling students into classes based upon their course requests and
courses actually offered. Meetings are held with students and/or their
parents when conflicts arise.
Assisting with the transition from junior high to high school by participating
in the advisor/advisee program. Counselors also hold an orientation
for new students prior to the beginning of school.
Meeting with students and parents who have concerns about student academic
performance or concerns about the teacher. Conferences are scheduled
as needed.
Collecting grades from teachers and issuing report cards.
Administering and interpreting the PSAT and the PLAN.
Providing students with their G.P.A. at the end of the junior year (for
use on college applications).
Providing information to students and their parents about the college
planning process, standardized tests, etc.
Maintaining lists of counseling professionals for referrals.
Referring student families, when necessary, to psychiatrists, psychologists,
and counselors when situations arise that are beyond the scope of expertise
of the present counselor(s).
Liasion between students, faculty, and administration
Listening to concerns of parents and students about academic problems
and forwarding those concerns to the administrators.
Meeting with students and parents who have concerns about school related
issues, student academic performance and/or teacher. Conferences are
scheduled as needed.
Administration of programs
Administering and interpreting the PSAT and the PLAN.
Providing registration packets for the ACT and the SAT I, II.
Assisting students with applications for scholarships, participation
in special programs, etc. Counselors write letters of recommendation
when needed.
Assisting student athletes with NCAA Clearinghouse applications.
Location
The Senior High Counselor's office is located adjacent to the College
Counseling Office.
Availability
The hours of the counseling office are 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday
through Friday.

Scheduling Conferences
Parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers. Teachers may be
reached by leaving a message in the Senior High Office at 939-8612 or
by calling a teacher's voice mail number as listed in the student directory.
If conferences need to be scheduled with more than one teacher or if
parents need to visit with the counselor for any other reason, an appointment
should be made through the counselor's office.
