Grade English Summer Reading
Books: The
No Promises in the Wind by Irene Hunt
Students will not be writing a journal
this summer. However, it is strongly suggested that students take notes and
underline important events, characters, details, etc. Tests on the two
selections will be given the first full day of school. Students should make a
good faith effort to read and understand the books and treat the assigned
readings seriously. Students should not
cheat themselves by resorting to movies or study guides. These deprive them of
the chance to respond to literature independently and are never an adequate
substitute for the book itself.
After the initial tests, writing
exercises exploring literary analysis and creative expression will be assigned
throughout the nine weeks. Therefore, it is imperative that students take notes
and mark the reading selections.
