Prep 8th Grade Team Wins National Science Bowl's Regional Competition

Fifteen 8th grade students traveled to the MS School of Math and Science last weekend to compete in the National Science Bowl's regional competition.  One of the 5-person teams won the competition and will advance to the  National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. this April.  The 5-person team is pictured here, from left: Eliza Burnham, Nora Beth Hetzel, Charlie Ott, Alex Gibbs and Jack Tribble.  The team is coached by Tracye Eakes. The National Science Bowl, sponsored by the United States Department of Energy, began in 2002 as a highly competitive science education and academic event among teams of middle school students who compete in a fast-paced verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions in all branches of math and science. This was Jackson Prep’s first appearance in the Regional Middle School Science Bowl.  Twenty-eight teams from fourteen schools participated in the event, including two other teams from Jackson Prep.  As the winner, Jackson Prep’s team received an all-expense paid trip to the national event, which will be held April 30 – May 4, 2015.
