The Howell Library opens on school days at 7:30 a.m.; it closes at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday and at 3:30 on Monday and Friday. The Library is open at other times at the request of teachers.
Using the Library
The library is a place for quiet study, reading, and research where students and teachers are welcome. Teachers who wish to bring their classes to the library should schedule their visit with the librarians. Students who want a quiet place to read or study are free to visit the library during their unscheduled time or during study hall with the permission of their teacher. Use of the library is a privilege, not a right, and students must respect the library and its rules to retain that privilege. All school regulations apply in the library, including the computer use policy.
Books may be checked out in two ways. The term for regular check-out is two weeks but may be renewed for an additional two weeks. Overnight check-out is at teacher discretion; books are obtained after school and must be returned before class begins the next morning.
Overdue fines for regular books are $.10 per day and for overnight books are $.10 per class period, or $.60 per day.
Should a student lose a book, the replacement cost will be charged.
All books and materials are turned in at the end of each semester. Students are not permitted to take their exams until all library obligations have been cleared. It is best to tend to these matters early!
