PAT Parent Lunch

January 14, 2010

Welcome – Lisa Hubbard welcomed everyone to the first PAT meeting of the new year.

Devotion – Carolyn Tatum

Mrs. Tatum informed all parents about the upcoming Junior High Student Council elections.  She encourages all hard working students to run for a position on the student council.

Seventh graders will go to the J.L. Scott Education Marine Center for the first time this spring.  The class will go in two groups on March 22-23 and April 12-13.  She asked that we pray for this to be a successful and safe trip.

Mrs. Tatum shared that the best way to inspire children is by letting them know that you want them to be successful and that you wholeheartedly support them.  Everyone becomes successful at different times.  We all add a part to the total picture of our children and students’ success.

Laura Lindell – Faculty Liason

Mrs. Lindell thanked the PAT for a wonderful reception after the Precis Pageant.  She highlighted the many events happening throughout the school in the academics, arts and athletic programs.

Student Government Update – Anna Blair Brown and Eleanor Anthony

Anna Blair Brown gave an update on several activities sponsored by the student council this year.  The Powder Puff Football game and Italian Coffee House were held in the fall.  The students are planning a crawfish boil at a baseball game and a student council Swap with Jim Hill High School in the spring.

Eleanor Anthony described the student council’s role in hosting the Candle lighters’ Carnival held at Prep every year in December.  Only student council members participate.  This year the sixth graders helped.  Games, crafts and lunch filled the day for many patients that come every year to this great event.

Sixth graders, Maddie Diket and Connor Watson were interviewed by Eleanor Anthony about what they are doing in the sixth grade community service class.  Madison explained how the students gathered items for parents and teachers to place bids with donations going to families of cancer patients.  Connor shared details about the class gathering products useful to residents of the Ronald McDonald House.  They both told how the sixth graders were involved with the Candlelighters’ Carnival at Prep.
