Jackson Prep High School Service Club

2007-2008

 

What is Service Club?  Jackson Prep Service Club is an organization for ALL students in grades 10-12.  Our club promotes volunteerism and provides committed service to our school and community.  Members receive opportunities for leadership development, to participate in ongoing service projects, to learn more about our community and to become more involved by helping others.   If you love the rewards of lending a helping hand, this club is for you!

 

Membership Requirements 

  • Club Meeting Attendance                                                        4  minimum                    (dates listed below)
  • Service Club Sponsored-Project Hours:                        10 minimum                     (projects listed below)

These must be done during the school year.

  • Total Community Service Hours:                                       30 minimum

Includes the 10 for Service Club Sponsored Projects. The remaining 20 hours can be any volunteer hours that meet the criteria for a Community Service Award listed on page 8 of the Student Handbook and are done April 16, 2007April 15, 2008.  It is possible to attain all of these hours in Club Sponsored projects during the school year.

  • Deadline to complete/turn in hours:  April 15, 2007. 

Failure to turn-in documentation of hours to Mrs. Varner is the same as not having done them!

  •  Members who complete the Service Club requirements will receive a Community Service Award as well as recognition as a Service Club member and will be eligible for membership the next year. 
  • Members who do not complete the requirements will not be eligible for membership the next year.  Seniors who do not complete the requirements will have their membership nullified and therefore cannot list it on their resume, etc. 

 

Service Club Sponsored Projects: 

  • Neighborhood Christian Center  Tutoring at 1st Presbyterian Church—Monday or Tuesday 3:30-5 PM
  • UMC/Blair Batson Hospital Activities Room— Tuesday or Wednesday nights 6-8 PM

                           Requirements: application, orientation attendance and TB test.

                          Volunteers must be 16 years or older.

  • Lakeland Nursing Home Visitation—most flexible; Monday- Friday 3:30- 5 PM or Saturday 2-5 PM   

                                                                                              There will also be some special events/parties.

  • Mission 1st Special Events/Projects— after-school or on Saturdays.  Times/Dates TBA  
  • Big Brothers/Big Sisters—1 hour/per week required; after-school in a local public elementary school

                          The organization places volunteers, and there is an extensive application process. 

  • An additional volunteer opportunity each month will be designated as a Service Club Sponsored Project.   Members will be notified of these opportunities at meetings.

How to Sign-Up

  • Attend the first meeting and complete a registration/project interest form.
  • All students, even members last year, must complete a registration/project interest form if they wish to participate.  Reminder:  students who did not meet the membership requirements last year are ineligible this year.  If you have a question regarding this, please see Mrs. Varner.
  • Forms are available on Mrs. Varner’s office door.  Completed forms should be turned into Mrs. Varner.
  • The registration deadline is Wednesday, September 20!

 

Probation/Resignations:

  • Members who do not have 5 hours in a Club Sponsored Project, 15 total documented service hours and have not attended at least two meetings by Monday, January 7, 2008 will be placed on probation and will receive notification. 
  • The deadline for resignation from the Club is Friday, January 11, 2008.
