McKibben is currently teaching 12th grade Government, Economics and

Caroline. She received a Bachelor of Social Work from University of
Mississippi, a Bachelor of Liberal Science/History from Millsaps, and

include reading, watching movies, and spending time with family and
friends. She and her family are members of St. Luke's United Methodist
Church where she sings in the choir. All of Mrs. McKibben's students
love her class and her teaching methods. When asked why they thought
Mrs. McKibben should be Teacher of the Month, one student replied, "She's
one of those teachers that is really fun and who makes the material
she teaches interesting. We have great in class discussions about current
events and even when you aren't talking about history you feel like
you learn a lot.
October 2007
For the month of October, Jackson Prep Student Council was honored
to award Teacher of the Month to Bobby Gross. Mr. Gross is not only
the teacher of Media Arts, but he also serves as the "Mr. fix-it" of
Prep technology. Without his constant aid (and literally constant because
he is helping students and teachers all the time), the entire school
would be lost. Thank you Mr. Gross for everything you do for us. You
really deserve this award.
September 2007
Mrs. Anna Freundt has been teaching at Jackson Prep for 8 years. Before
teaching at Prep, she taught at various colleges, like Belhaven. This
is her second year to be English Department Chair. This year, she teaches
2 classes of AP Language and Composition, 1 class of 11th grade Honors
English, and 1 class of College Prep English. Mrs. Freundt loves teaching
because. “I love the variety that this job offers. Everyday, every
student, every lesson is different, and the challenges inherent in this
job force me to grow as a teacher and as an individual.” She has
been married to Cal Freundt for 23 years. They have four children: Zac
(19) ,who is a sophomore at Southern Miss., Emma (16) ,who is a junior
at Prep, and Zoe and Cassie (14) ,who are freshmen at Prep. For the
past six years, she, along with Mrs. LouAnn McKibben, sponsored the
Italian Exchange Program. Mrs. Freundt likes to read, deep conversations,
going to plays, anything chocolate, and drinking coffee. She feels very
honored to be chosen at Student Council’s SH teacher of the month
for September. “It is the highest honor to be picked. I never
win anything. I just thought my name was chosen from a hat. I was having
a bad day.” She laughs. Congrats, Mrs. Freundt!!
August 2007
Mr. Lain Hughes is no stranger to the Jackson Prep halls. Between 1983
and 1989, Mr. Hughes excelled in academics and the newspaper, The
Sentry. Prep is his first real job, dating back to 1995, and subtracting
two years when he attended graduate school. In college, Mr. Hughes majored
in history and political science. So how did he become a teacher at
Prep? Through faculty members, Mr. Hughes heard Prep was looking for
a newspaper chief. He took the job and taught history on the side. He
is currently the Department Head for Social Studies and teaches 2 AP
U.S. History classes, 1 College Prep history class, and manages The
Sentry. He remembers back to his high school days when he saw a
group of National Merit Semifinalists eat cheesecake off the floor.
He loves Prep because “Kids who are interested in the world can
explore their interests in an atmosphere where they’re taken seriously.”
Mr. Hughes wishes to thank his fellow faculty members for being so kind
since his marriage September 1, 2007. On the weekends, he reads the
newspapers, watches movies, and creates a comic strip online with a
friend. Congratulations, Mr. Hughes, Student Council’s SH teacher
of the month for August!!
