Created in 2013, the Writer's Block is a student-staffed peer coaching center for writing skills.

  • Location

    Room 128 (Across from the Upper School Office)
  • Hours

    • The Writer's Block is generally open during Activity Period and Community Time throughout the fall, except for during Friday pep rallies. Coaches are available by appointment before and after school.
    • Additionally, appointments can be made throughout the school day with coaches who are available during a study hall. See the schedule posted in Upper School Room 128 for details.

  • What to bring when you visit the Writer's Block

    • your paper (if it exists)
    • your writing handbook (if you have one)
    • the assignments
    • a writing utensil
  • What to expect when you visit the Writer's Block

    • to have a friendly, informal meeting with a student coach
    • to be asked questions about your assignment, your ideas, what you hope to communicate
    • to receive help with one or two areas of the writing process
    • to leave your appointment with a clear sense of something you can work on
    • to have the chance to make a follow-up appointment
  • What not to expect when you visit the Writer's Block

    • to be told what is wrong with your paper
    • to have someone else “correct” your mistakes
    • to leave with a “perfect” paper
