Endowments

A strong endowment is the “story behind the story” at the most successful schools and universities across the country. Schools that set the standards of quality and excellence and are able to sustain greatness over generations are, almost without exception, those with the strongest endowments.

While other schools have larger endowments, Prep has built an excellent school by making exceptionally careful use of our resources and through the generous support of the Prep Family, year after year. Just think of what Prep could accomplish if we also had a truly strong endowment.

A Stronger Endowment Will Enable Prep To:

  1. Invest in innovative program ideas, take risks and continue pursuing new ways to enhance our current educational experience for students.
  2. Attract, develop, and retain the strongest faculty in an increasingly competitive environment.
  3. Provide an accessible education by controlling tuition growth and funding greater flexible tuition opportunities for mission appropriate families in the Jackson area, including the families of our faculty and staff.
  4. Maintain and enhance our campus without relying as heavily on tuition or campaigns.
  5. Sustain a financially strong school through fluctuations in the economy and environment.
  6. Guarantee that Prep will survive and thrive for future generations of students.

  • AN EXAMPLE OF A NAMED ENDOWMENT

Longtime supporters, The Smiths, want to create an endowment fund so Prep continues to flourish long after their lifetime. They also want to memorialize their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jones. The Smiths make a $100,000 donation to Prep, which we invest. Each year, a portion of the income from the invested money will be used to support our mission in honor of the Joneses. The rest of the income is reinvested in the fund, providing support to the School indefinitely. The Smiths get a federal income tax charitable deduction on their taxes because they made a lump-sum gift.
