Make A Difference

Imagine students stepping forward to make the world move. It’s happening here at Jackson Prep with students participating in MAD or “Make a Difference”  projects. During their upper school years, students identify a passion and are coached how to lead an effort that changes our world here in Mississippi or around the globe. Leadership is alive at Prep! Any student can lead or be part of one of the numerous MAD projects during a school year.

Mentoring

In the Global Leadership Institute, we provide a Mentor Program that we see as extremely valuable and important for our students. Students are encouraged to select an adult mentor during the summer prior to their sophomore year. The goal of the GLI Mentor Program is for students to form relationships with adults, other than their parents, who can provide insight and will invest in them during their upper school years and beyond. 

Global Leadership Travel

Jackson Prep’s Global Leadership Institute strongly believes globalization is here to stay, and student leaders who want to work in our interconnected global world should have an opportunity to travel abroad. 

Learning how to interact with people from other countries and cultures equips future leaders with an advantage prior to attending college.

Prep’s GLI summer trips are the most effective and accessible means for students to develop needed global leadership skills, pushing students out of their comfort zone and encouraging them to experience another culture, language, environment, and education system. 

Jackson Prep’s GLI travels each summer to a different destination and strives to end the tour at a two-day Leadership Summit, which brings teachers and student leaders from around the world together to learn the “Design Problem Solving Technique” and to tackle an issue posed by the conference. Each year, a new topic and destination is selected. Past locations include China, Italy, Switzerland, Iceland, and London. 

The Jackson Preparatory Impact Award for Excellence and Leadership
 

The Impact Award is presented formally or informally to students, faculty, parents or guests that display Excellence and/or Leadership at Jackson Prep. It can be awarded for a one-time act, event or for a sustained period. The award is to be worn by all to graduation ceremonies or any Prep event to indicate they have distinguished themselves and have been recognized.

Upon presentation an explanation of the crest is explained to the individual and group present.

In the upper-left quadrant of the school’s crest appears a blue field with six white stars representing sacrificial service that typifies a Patriot, the school’s mascot; adjacent to this appears three acorns representing knowledge and the trivium, the ancient disciplines of rhetoric, grammar, and logic.  Beneath this appear four alternating red stripes, which represent the school’s foundational values of scholarship, service, character and leadership.  The final quadrant features the laurel wreath, the classical symbol for victory.  Above the four fields of the crest is the Latin word for excellence, which is the one-word motto for all of our school’s endeavors.
