Jackson Prep Equestrian Team

Jackson Prep's Equestrian Team was founded in 2014, and is the first Interscholastic Equestrian Team (IEA) and Middle and High School Equestrian Program in Mississippi.  The Program is open to equestrian athletes in grades 6-12, and to both female and male students.

We are trying to attract new riders to the team. This is a trial-based month, and at the end of the month, the student has the option to join the team. If they do so, this payment will go into the yearly cost.

The Jackson Prep Equestrian Team competes within IEA Region 4 in Hunt Seat Equitation flat and over-fences competition and competes against other teams from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

Jackson Prep Equestrian Team, Jackson Prep honors its other equestrian athletes who participate in the High School Equestrian Athlete Program sponsored by the United States Equestrian Federation.  Students who register for, document their training and competition involvement with, and receive a Certificate of Achievement from the USEF, may also submit the documentation to the Athletic Department at Jackson Prep and receive recognition from Jackson Prep as participating in a Jackson Prep varsity athletic program.  Students who achieve a Certificate of Achievement from the USEF for all four (4) years of upper school will receive recognition as a Jackson Prep Varsity Letterman.  For more information on the USEF High School Equestrian Athlete Program, visit their website at www.usef.org/lettering/.  
 

Meet Our Trainers

Leah Mitchell is the Hunter Jumper Trainer at Serenity Acres LLC where she using the equestrian sport to mentor young women. Leah grew up in Orlando Florida where she rode in the A Circuit through high school. After High School she attended Mississippi College in Clinton, MS where she received her Undergraduate degree in Psychology. While at Mississippi College she rode as the open rider for their Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Team. Following her Undergraduate degree, she was hired to become the assistant coach of the Mississippi College Equestrian Team. During that time, she finished her Master’s in Business Administration and founded the inaugural Interscholastic Equestrian Association Team in the state of Mississippi. Since then she has been focusing on training both horses and riders at Serenity Acres Farm in Flowood Mississippi.


Katherine Mooney is a hunter/jumper trainer at Serenity Aces LLC. She grew up in Jackson, MS, and began riding at the age of 8. After high school, Katherine attended Mississippi College in Clinton, MS where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her time at MC, she rode on the 
equestrian team for 4 years, and she was the captain for 3 years. While she was on the team, she made it to IHSA Regionals and Zones twice. Following the completion of her undergraduate degree, Katherine attended Texas State University in San Marcos, TX where she received her Master of Science in Psychological Research. While in Texas, Katherine continued to work with horses. She worked as the wrangler at Camp Blessing Texas, where she assisted special needs children and adults through the riding and interaction with horses. After the completed of her Master’s degree, Katherine returned to Mississippi, where she currently riding and training at Serenity Acres LLC.
